Made-up numbers, on a made-up month. I have not seen a single one of your statements and this does not need me to. The point of the picture is the grey block, not the amounts.

I have roughly zero in the bank this week, and 220 of the next 430 is already promised to Candid. So this is not me being organised at you.

I got fed up of guessing, so I built myself something that reads my statements and tells me where the money actually went. It took a while to work out. You can have the finished version without the working out.

Three options below, smallest first. Take one, or none.

The small one

You drop a statement into your own Claude, it sorts everything into categories, and the results go into a spreadsheet you keep. About an hour to set up, ten minutes a month after that.

The same thing, except it remembers. Your own login, your own database, a proper page instead of a spreadsheet, and six months of history you can ask questions of. Ten minutes a month and no spreadsheet.

The login would be the same one you already use on EduTrack, so there is nothing new to learn.

A joint one

One system, both of us, everything visible in both directions. Genuinely useful for working out the household split. Only worth it if that is a thing you want.

The important bit

Who can actually see it.

This is the part that matters, so here it is straight, including the awkward bit.

Option one. Your Claude account and your file. There is no version of this where I can see it. Nothing to take my word for.

Option two. Your statement gets read inside your Claude account, not by anything I have built. My code never sees a statement at any point. What I build is only the page that displays what your Claude hands it.

But somebody has to set the accounts up, and that is where the real question sits. Two ways to do it, and they are not equal.

Guided

You create the GitHub and Cloudflare accounts yourself while I talk you through it. I never hold a password at any point. About half an hour, and you have done harder than this on EduTrack.

Hands off

I create everything and hand it over, and you change every password immediately. Quicker, but there is a window in which I could look. I would not, but I would not is not the same thing as I cannot, and you should not have to take my word for it.

Guided is the one that actually holds. That is the one I would take.

Option three. Both of us see everything, by design. Do not pick this one unless you want that.

Not a new idea

You have already built one of these with me.

It is just how I set things up for anybody whose data is not mine to hold. You would not be getting a special favour, you would be getting the normal one.

To start

Almost nothing.

For option one, nothing at all. You already have everything you need.

For option two, about half an hour of an evening, and a bank you can export a PDF from. That is the lot.

I do not need to see a statement. Not one, not ever. That is not me being polite about it, it is how the thing is built.

If you want the small one you can have it this week. And if the honest answer is that 2026 can fuck off and you would rather not look at any of it right now, that is a completely reasonable answer and I will not bring it up again.
